Rockets 18 May (new time 1:30PM)

Posted by admin on May 18 2014 - 6:33am

The event is held in Ashburn at the BSA Claude Moore Rec Center. (THIS IS NOT THE CLAUDE MOORE CENTER IN STERLING).

The Pack will provide several rocket motors/engines, igniters, and wadding per scout. Bring Launching Pads only if provided in your kit. We will set a few up in a line at the edge of the parking area to share.

Dens are encouraged to make building the rockets a den event.

Participants need to purchase Rocket kits ($10-$20) available at local hobby shops,Michaels, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby and Walmart.

All Kits require some assembly and/or glueing, except ESTES RTF (Ready To Fly). Do not attempt to assemble a kit that requires assembly the day of the event...

NOTE:  Scouts will need to retrieve their rockest by running through tall grass. "They need to chase their rockets in the hollows" Long pants are suggested due to ticks and thorns. If it is a warm day use your judgement and check for ticks before returning home.

This place is not easy to find. The closes known GPS address is Moorefield Fire Station 23 located next to the entrance of the Claude Moore Scout Reservation. Fire Station - 43495 Old Ryan Rd, Ashburn, VA 201148. Reservation - 43451 Old Ryan Rd, Ashburn, VA 20147.

Directions: (13 miles 30 minutes)

Rt 28 South to Waxpool Rd (VA-625) West go 1.7 mi.
Turn Left at light and continue 1.0 mi on Waxpool Rd (VA-625) West

Turn Left onto Ashburn Village Blvd and go over Greenway .9 mi.

As soon as your turn left on Old Ryan Rd the Firestation will be on your left. The entrance for the BSA Center is approximately 50 ft. past the fire station on the left. It is not well marked. There is a metal gate and a wooden sign with "Claud Moore Outdoor Education Center". Follow the gravel road and bear right at the fork to the clearing. Park in the gravel lot. There is a covered pavilion and a portalet. Bring rocket, water, sunscreen, bug and tick repellent, a hat, comfortable closed toe shoes and a change of clothes. 1152 Spring Family Campout.

Posted by admin on May 11 2014 - 6:04am

Scouts and Families,

You are invited to the Pack 1152 Spring Family Campout.  Please RSVP the number of family members attending the Saturday evening festivities.  If camping overnight, please additionally provide the number camping in the RSVP comment box in the EVITE email.

The opening ceremony will begin at 4:30 pm and then Scout games (uniform Class B).  Dinner will be served at 6:00 pm.  The Scout's Class A uniform should be available for changing before the campfire lighting ceremony, skits and rank advancement at ~6:50 pm.

The campsite will be open earlier in the afternoon for tent setup. Family members should bring camp chairs to watch the skits & advancement.  Each family is asked to contribute $20 for food and campsite rental.
A light breakfast will be served at 7:00 am Sunday morning for campers, cleanup and "Leave No Trace" at 8:30 am.

Most scouts agree that the Spring Campout is one of the most fun times of the Scout year.  Camping contributes to good health, helps campers develop self-reliance and resourcefulness, and introduces boys to the knowledge and skills that they will learn and apply more thoroughly as a Boy Scout.  The Tigers are our hosts.  They will be primarily responsible for games, set up, food prep and serving of food.
